Popular social networking site Facebook has gained a royal member as the UK’s Queen has created a Facebook account that will allow other users of the site to follow the royal happenings.
Now Facebook users will be able to follow news, photos and videos of the Queen Elizabeth and other members of the royal family. In addition, followers will also be able to know about the royal family’s upcoming events.
The move of signing up to Facebook is the most recent development by the royal family to tap into social media and networking platforms.
The royal house said that the Queen joined Facebook to better communicate with the members of the public.
Speaking on the development, one of the Queen’s aides added, “The Queen knows all her grandchildren use Facebook and it would be remiss of the Household not to be keeping up-to-date with the web.”
However, the series of Queen Elizabeth’s Facebook pages will not allow other users to send friendship requests or to poke her Royal Highness as these are corporate pages and not personal ones.
It may be noted here that it is not the first time that Queen Elizabeth has put herself on the Internet. The royal family already has YouTube, Twitter and Flickr accounts.
Facebook, which was started in 2004, has more than half-a-billion users around the globe
